WHY METABOLISM IS IMPORTANT

The word metabolism is derived from the Greek language which means “change” or “transformation”. Metabolism is the amount of energy or calories our body burns to maintain vital functions. At every moment, be it sleeping, walking, shopping or exercising, our body is constantly burning calories. It needs fuel just as a car needs fuel to power itself.

In simpler words, our metabolism is the regulator and manager of our body’s fuel. It is the speed at which our body produces energy by burning calories and by breaking down the food through digestion. So if you feed your body 10 grams of carbohydrates, that is 10 grams X 4 (1 gram of carb gives 4 calories of energy), it gives you 40 calories.

The faster your metabolism, the faster your body does everything, including burning fat. There are some indicators by which one can notice that their metabolism is improving or getting faster.

  • Fingernails growing faster.
  • Hair growing faster
  • Energy levels soar through the day
  • You cheat on junk food
  • Weight does not increase a bit
  • More energy during your workouts. If you miss your workout, you feel lethargic and uneasy.
  • Body requires food every 2.5 to 3 hours and it will remind you by making your tummy growl or have a rippling feeling every 2.5 to 3 hours.
